American General Life Insurance
In Tennessee on February 28, 1900, the National Sick and Accident Association of Nashville was formed, becoming known as the American General Life Insurance Company in 1984. In 1968, the company was bought, with its parent company being the NLT Corporation. Fourteen years later, American General Corporation (AGC) bought NLT, and thus, American General Life Insurance.
The American Life Insurance Company, was not the only company amalgamated with others, the 1990s saw a series of mergers. Gulf Life Insurance Company became merged into American General Life and Accident in 1991. Two large mergers took place in 1997, both involving the American General Life and Accident Company, who brought in the Independent Life and Accident Insurance Company, and also the Home Beneficial Insurance Company.
